Common - The Believer (Alternate Version) [Prod. No I.D.]
I prefer this version over the original track featuring John Legend (with its uplifting tone that Legend is known for) that appeared on Common’s new album The Dreamer / The Believer. No I.D. channeling RZA in this much grimier take that provides a great backdrop for Com Sense to lyrically rip shit up. Really digging the LP which IMO is Rashied’s best studio recording since 2005’s BE. TD/TB has also proven to be a successful long-time reunion for No I.D. and Common Sense, with it being their first extensive collabo since 1997’s One Day It’ll All Make Sense (which is still my personal favourite Common LP).
Always been a believer in Com since I first heard his Pete Rock produced Ice Cube diss joint The Bitch In Yoo playing on college hip-hop radio way back in 1996. And after nearly 2 decades in the rap game, the man has greatly deserved all the mainstream attention he’s been getting for the past few years. Common ranks second only to Black Thought of The Roots on my list of all-time favourite MCs/lyricists (NaS, Dre/3Stacks and Masta Ace round out my TOP 5).
