*bowing deeply* Happy 59th birthday to the grand/godfather of gaming, a true artist, creative visionary, living legend, the single most influential icon in the video game industry and, on top of everything else (based on what I’ve read and seen in interviews over the years), a fantastic human being and great person. Makes me smile just looking at his picture, thinking of the countless happy memories that this man’s brilliant creations have given to my generation (I, for one, have been exploring Shiggy’s beautiful worlds for the better part of the past 23 years).
To celebrate this occasion, I am going to revisit Super Mario Galaxy (which came out on the Wii 4 years ago this week) and later New Super Mario Bros. (DS); the only two titles out of the SMB platformers I own that I haven’t played a hundred times all the way through (yet). Thank you Miyamoto-san, for everything you have done to enrich our lives with the pure joy of gaming. And may there be many more 1UPs hidden along the side-scrolling path of your future.
