Ever since May 2008, due to an image coding discrepancy/error (perhaps prompted by the major site redesign in June), users could no longer upload any cool, wacky, hypnotizing animated gifs as their Last.fm profile page avatar (a basic feature in any message board, let alone a music social community with 3 million+ users worldwide).
